The Daffodil

When Josh and Phil first approached Ferry & Sons during the early stages of the Daffodil redevelopment, it was immediately clear that this was far more than a refurbishment. Their vision, developed alongside their architect and design team, was to breathe new life into one of Liverpool’s most recognisable and historic landmarks while celebrating the vessel’s remarkable heritage.

Having transported generations of Liverpudlians across the Mersey—and welcomed some of the city’s most famous names, including The Beatles—the Daffodil holds a special place in Liverpool’s history. Every design decision was made to respect that legacy while creating an exciting new destination for the city.

Working closely with the design team, Ferry & Sons was entrusted with fabricating and installing a series of bespoke natural stone bar areas, each individually designed with unique curves, profiles and handcrafted edge details. Every element was created to complement the architect’s vision and reflect the character of the vessel itself.

The centrepiece of the project is the spectacular main bar, whose sweeping form echoes the hull of the Daffodil. A bespoke double bullnose edge detail subtly references the boat’s external profile, creating a beautiful connection between the vessel’s past and its new purpose.

From a craftsmanship perspective, this was one of our most technically demanding projects. No two sections were identical. Every individual piece of natural stone was precision laser templated, expertly fabricated and meticulously installed, requiring patience, experience and absolute attention to detail at every stage.

Today, proudly moored in Liverpool’s iconic Albert Dock, the Daffodil continues to serve the people of the city—no longer carrying passengers across the Mersey, but bringing people together in a truly unique setting that celebrates Liverpool’s culture, history and hospitality.

As a local family business, it has been an honour to contribute to the restoration of such an important Liverpool landmark. Playing even a small part in preserving a piece of the city’s heritage is something we’re incredibly proud of, and a project that perfectly reflects our passion for exceptional craftsmanship and timeless natural stone.
